Mount Kimbie - Field
one of my favorite releases last year was Mount Kimbie’s Maybes EP. Dominic Maker and Kai Campos, two UK musicians based in London, and that share more in common stylistically to certain sounds going on in the US underground than the UK ‘dubstep’ scene they’re often shamelessly thrown into, released Field earlier this month in anticipation of their July debut album Crooks...

The Stuyvesants - Brooklyn's Finest
now for a little change of pace. anyone that knows me probably knows that i’m from NYC, and I shamelessly rep the city all day, everyday (although i’m currently living in Chicago). being in NYC, you gain a strong love & appreciation for hip-hop music & culture (it’s ubiquitous). that being said, in 2010, there isn’t too much to get excited about in terms of...

Evenings
i was over at Double Denim’s tumblr checking out some tunes when I came across Evenings track, Still Young. i don’t know much about Nathan Broaddus, but he makes some chilled-out electronic music that makes use of stuttering samples, hazy synth hums, and melancholy summer-pop melodies.
[Edit] digital EP called North Dorm out now over at his bandcamp. tight productions all around.

Kiitos Sara
Kiitos Sara aka Sara Fabulous for all you that don’t know, makes some gorgeous harp music. equal parts dream-pop + african harp tunes, she combines hypnotizing strings and her haunting vocals to create a blend of trance-inducing harp-pop. she’ll be releasing her debut album, “Kittos Sara” by the end of the summer. keep an eye out. get hype.

Paragus
Paragus aka Jake Dietz, a good friend and frequent musical collaborator, makes expansive, often improvised ambient music, experimenting with tape loops, his vocals, feedback, melodica, guitar and pretty much anything else around him at the moment. a few days back I posted an improvised collaboration he and i made(C_W #1 ), and earlier this year he put out the Losses EP, which is “a unique...

Lil B aka The Based God
i haven’t been this excited about a new hip-hop artist since Supreeme, or since Lil’ Wayne dropped like 50 mixtapes. Lil B, who hails from Berkley, California, embodies the hustle and prolific output of Weezy (whom he name drops numerous times and is an obvious influence) and the abstract, fluid intellect of Busdriver. apparently dude has put out like 1000+ songs, written a book,...

DsorDNE - Grafio Ricerca 002 (1988) →
keeping up with the theme of oldies but goodies, here’s a cassette digitization of some nice minimal synth drones and spaced-out analog experiments released in Italy on the Hax label.

Kreem - Triangle of Love (1986) →
great Juan Atkins & Kevin Saunderson produced single for Metroplex from 1986. as far as i know, it’s out of print + the vocal work sounds eerily relevant today.
